Tony Horton, creator of the revolutionary P90X Workout program, is a widely popular personal and celebrity trainer as well as fitness guru. He has worked with clients including Billy Idol, Tom Petty, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and Bruce Springsteen. Most recently, Tony has worked with celebrity clients such as Usher Raymond and Ewan McGregor.
Even celebrity mom like Sheryl Crow who has to schedule her fitness plan around infants and toddlers gives credit to her great shape to P90X while being interviewed at the Grammy Awards.
Did You Know? The First Lady Michelle Obama also works out with P90X.
P90X Workout Program
Horton created the P90X workout program after fine tuning his earlier fitness program, Power 90. In Power 90, Horton used plyometrics – quick, explosive movements – to produce a boot camp-style home workout series. Power 90 and P90X both promise to achieve weight loss and toning results after 90 days of following the program.
Note: If you are new to fitness or looking for something less intense than P90X, Power 90 will help you get yourself back on that path to a healthier lifestyle before progressing to P90X.
How P90X Works
P90X workouts use the principle of muscle confusion to help you continually improve your level of fitness and see better results without hitting the usual workout plateau. The principle of muscle confusion means using a varied fitness routine that keeps changing so your muscles do not adapt to the same exercises and hit a plateau.
With the P90X workout program, the exercises change often to keep your muscles challenged and continually developing. The workouts use a combination of exercises from a variety of disciplines – calisthenics, yoga, plyometrics, cardio and core exercises.
The P90X transformation would not be complete without an eating plan to help with weight loss and maintaining energy levels. The P90X nutrition plan is divided into three phases, to correlate with the three workout phases in the P90X program. The phases are the Fat Shredder diet, Energy Booster diet, and Endurance Maximizer.
The Fat Shredder plan includes a high-protein diet that also burns fat. The Energy Booster diet features nutrients that will give you maximum energy for workouts. The Endurance Maximizer includes complex carbs for long-term sources of fuel.
The Tony Horton P90X system promises a full-body transformation within 90 days of following the fitness and nutrition program. The high-intensity workouts are completed in an hour or less per day and they offer the benefits of burning a high amount of calories to facilitate weight loss. The program is ideal for people who want to lose weight, increase strength and stamina and see more muscle definition. The P90X system relies on a wide range of movements and cycles of workouts, so the body is continually challenged and reaching higher levels of fitness.
P90X workouts require participants to be dedicated and disciplined, participating in intense workouts most days of the week. P90X participants should follow the 90-day plan by doing all of the suggested workouts and diets in order to see the best results. Before beginning the P90X workout program, make sure you have the green light from your doctor.
